Qualifications needed to be a Site Supervisor

You require several years of experience working within your specific trade or in a similar field, such as project management or as a tradesperson, before stepping into a supervisory role. During this you will become familiar with site operations, construction methods, and safety protocols which is crucial. This can be gained from working as a labourer, or other on-site roles.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent - This is generally the minimum educational requirement 

  • Vocational Qualifications or Certifications: Many site supervisors have vocational qualifications in construction, engineering or related fields for example:

  • NVQ’s in construction management

  • City & Guilds qualifications

  • BTEC Diplomas in Construction

  • Higher Education: Some Site Supervisors may have a degree in construction management, civil engineering or related fields but this isn’t always required. 

  • Gold CSCS card which is available for those who have:

  • Achieved a construction related NVQ/SVQ level 3 or SVQ and SCQF level 6

  • Completed an approved apprenticeship 

  • Completed an employer sponsored apprenticeship that included the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate.
