Temporary Works (TW) is a collective term applied to certain elements that enable a project to be constructed, maintained or demolished. Temporary Works has long been recognised throughout the construction industry to be both safety critical and business critical. There are many interacting interfaces in construction and this extends to TW.

BS5975 recommends a TWC is appointed to be responsible for the co-ordination of the TW. This should be a senior person within the team, reflecting the importance of the role. Our 2-day course provides essential information on industry best practice for those about to or are currently undertaking the TWC role. An accepted level of knowledge is verified via the CITB assessment on conclusion of the course, the certificate for which is a prerequisite within many leading construction companies. The course highlights management processes, essential structural elements, health and safety considerations, planning and risk identification concepts.

Many topics are dealt with, including:

  • Examples of what constitutes Temporary Works in the construction industry

  • Duties and responsibilities of TWC and other key roles in the control of Temporary Works

  • Recommendations of BS 5975 in relation to the procedural control of Temporary Works

  • Documents commonly used as part of a Temporary Works control procedure

  • Legislation and available guidance that influence Temporary Works considerations

  • Importance of Communication, Co-ordination, Co-operation and Competence

  • Benefits in adopting risk management concepts

  • Examples of both successful practice and failures of Temporary Works

A comprehensive hard copy Course Notebook is provided for each delegate for both on-the-day and future reference purposes.
